Among the events organized by IEM in the US worthy of special interest are those dedicated to the “Young Lions”, a group of legendary and pioneering wine-makers from around the world

, including:  Alessia Antinori (Antinori), Alvaro Palacios (Alvaro Palacios), Marco Caprai (Arnaldo Caprai), Hans Vinding Diers (Bodega Noemia), Jean-Baptiste Lecaillon (Champagne Louis Roederer), Alex Van Beek (Chateau Giscours), Thomas Duroux (Chateau Palmer), Dominque Lafon (Domaine Comtes-Lafon), Jeremy Seysses (Domaine Dujac), Angelo Gaja (Gaja), Jeffrey Grosset (Grosset Wines), Philippe Guigal (E. Guigal), Raffaele Boscaini (Masi), Francesca Planeta (Planeta), Peter Sisseck (Pingus) , Adrian Bridge (Taylor’s), Sebastiano Rosa (Tenuta San Guido), David Powell (Torbreck) and Willi Bruendlmayer (Weingut Bruendlmayer). These events, organized in cooperation with Serena Sutcliffe MW of Sotheby’s auction house, were created with the purpose of addressing the major issues and challenges facing the wine industry across the world with a round table discussion and wine tasting of some of the most sought-after wines in the planet. Past events include:

  • April 2006: Verona, Italy. As the highlight event of the 40th anniversary of Vinitaly, the Young Lions hosted a conference with guided wine tasting attended by 120 international press and trade from around the globe.
  • October 2007: Chicago. During the Vinitaly US Tour, the Young Lions hosted a conference and guided wine tasting attended by 100 selected trade and press. A gala dinner including charity auction was hosted in the evening for wine lovers.  
  • October 2008: New York. A round table discussion with Serena and the Young Lions on how the wine market was being affected by recent phenomena was attended by what was the described “the most important personalities in the New York Wine scene”. The seminar was followed by a walk around tasting open also to wine lovers. Both events were held in the spectacular location of the New York Public Library.
